The Making of a Garden Sanctuary

Good Thymes Patio — Lowell, Massachusetts

Located along a busy roadway with its primary view facing a cemetery, the existing patio lacked privacy, atmosphere, and visual direction.

The openness of the space created little separation between the dining experience and the surrounding environment, leaving the patio feeling exposed rather than immersive.

The concept began with a simple question:

"How do we transform an open roadside patio into an intimate dining destination?"

The solution centered around creating visual enclosure through layered spatial design. A custom privacy fence was introduced along the perimeter to soften unwanted sightlines and establish a greater sense of intimacy without fully disconnecting the patio from its surroundings.

Once the space was visually grounded, the landscape strategy focused on drawing attention inward.

The Making of a Tranquil Entrance

Ridgecrest St Hudson, NH

Rather than placing the experience behind the home, the design reimagined the front entry as a welcoming zen-inspired sanctuary. Layered plantings, natural stone, soft movement, and a calming koi pond were thoughtfully integrated into the arrival sequence, transforming the front landscape into both a visual focal point and a moment of retreat.

The result is an intentional entry experience designed to bring balance, serenity, and atmosphere to the everyday approach home. To learn more about this residential project please click here.

The concept began with a simple question:

How do we create an immersive garden experience in a location where a traditional backyard retreat wasn’t possible?

Situated at the end of a quiet wooded street, Ridgecrest’s natural surroundings brought beauty, but also the challenge of frequent wildlife and predators — making the homeowner’s vision for a koi pond difficult to safely achieve within the backyard itself.
